LAO PEOPLE’S DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC

The relevant constitutional provision appears in Article 17 of the Constitution of Lao P.D.R. of 14 August 1991.

Regarding the law on environmental protection, as of 1 October 1998, it did not exist. The law may come into existence in the near future. According to the information received from the Science Technology and Environment Organization (STENO) of Lao P.D.R. on 1 October 1998, the Lao P.D.R. was - and, probably still is - in the process of promulgating the law. According to STENO, the bill is scheduled to be submitted to the National Assembly for promulgation in February 1999.
